The Foundry plays a key role as a space for connecting research, teaching & learning in Creative Technologies, AI, Data Science and Cybersecurity with businesses and organisations.

Types of Events

Digital Events

The Foundry hosts high-profile technology outreach and engagement events across games and creative technologies, data science, AI and cyber-security, to widen participation around coding and digital skills. The Foundry is also home to exciting events such as the Global Game Jam where students and professionals collaborate in a fun and informal way.

Design Challenges & Consultancies

Design challenges are industry-led project briefs that invite student teams to compete to develop the best digital solution, with a prize donated by the client organisation. Consultancies are supervised projects in user research, commercial project scoping or pitch prototyping.

The Foundry space can hold exciting staff development sessions that allow 5 to 20 participants to train via playful interactions. The hire fee includes use of kitchen facilities and games facilitation.

Global Game Jam 2024

In January 2024, Luke Reed and the Foundry Team organised the Bristol branch of the 2024 Global Game Jam, bringing together over 150 game developers, artists, musicians, and students in collaborative development of original games. The Bristol branch was the largest in-person site in the UK and top 15th worldwide. Featured at the Game Jam was an interactive exhibit by Chris Nash (2024), entitled “Ars Arcus: Procedural Game Music using Manhattan”.
